Dear Sir / Madam:
I would like to apply for the position of IT specialist / expert, consultant or manager. My name is Marek Uher and I was born on 4th July 1974 in Kladno. There I visited the elementary and the grammar schools. After finishing grammar school I began to study at the Czech Technical University, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, in Prague and I choose to study at Department of Computers. I completed the bachelor degree (BSc. equivalent) successfully in 1998. After finishing the bachelor part of study, I was continuing with the final part of my education at the University, so called engineer part. I completed the engineer degree (MSc. equivalent) successfully in February 2000.
At the University I got generally acquainted with operating systems, networking and computer graphics (UNIX, TCP/IP networking, real-time volume rendering, etc.). My bachelor work at the University was focused on the computer security and it dealt with the security of internal network and its connection to Internet. The main part of mentioned work described building of a customized firewall, which was successfully implemented at the UHKT (Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion), Prague. My diploma thesis dealt with increasing the security of internal computer network. First part of this work was a collection of tips how to secure Intranet and UNIX distributed computing environment. The main part of my dissertation described architecture, building and implementation of the new auditing and monitoring system called Wotan. The final part of work summarized the results of implementing and running Wotan at the UHKT.
During my studies I have been working at the UHKT as an UNIX system administrator and network manager. My employment contract with the UHKT finished at the end of February 2000, and then I started working in Seznam (the biggest Czech internet portal and search engine) at the same position. After leaving Seznam I was working in T-Mobile Czech Republic a.s. (formerly RadioMobil a.s.) as IT specialist (Linux system specialist) for more then five years. My employment contract with the T-Mobile Czech Republic a.s. finished at the end of September 2005. Then I spend few months on educational visit in China. I am currently working for T-Systems Czech Republic a.s. (formerly PragoNet a.s.) as Solution specialist.
I have been collaborating as an external system administrator, security consultant and webmaster in Fenix s.r.o. Brno in 1998 for than one year. I had very intensive collaboration with Italian company Antek, which hired me as a consultant, remote system administrator and network manager on extensive Internet project a few years ago. Nowadays I am collaborating on few non-commercial projects as an external system administrator, webmaster and security consultant - for example: Dinmont.cz and Dinmont.eu, Tai-ci.org, Conforg.cz, etc.
I have proposed several computer network installations and security arrangements for these installations. I have very good knowledge of Linux operating system (especially Debian GNU/Linux distribution), Sun Solaris, IRIX, QNX and BeOS - i.e. installing, management, system integration in heterogeneous environment, programming, etc. I am skilled in computer security (building firewalls, specification of security policies, risk analysis, auditing, monitoring, etc.). I have good skills of TCP/IP networking (services configuration, monitoring, web mastering, programming, etc.). I can make programs in C/C++ and various UNIX command interpreters.
I can speak English. The study at the university and work with computers improved especially my technical English. I have working knowledge of German, Russian and Slovak language, too.
I still live in Kladno and I am single. At my leisure time I am interested in modern computer art and graphics, listening modern music, drawing comic strips, reading sci-fi literature, traveling and practicing Chinese martial arts.
